“Out of the womb of the human heart, God is born” was the theme of Wendy Sealey’s message last Sunday.  Wendy shared a powerful sermon partly based on this  Islamic Dkihr taught by Atum O’Kane, a senior teacher in the Sufi Order International.  What a perfect reminder that we are not merely born in the flesh but also born in the Spirit, and that when we have love in our hearts, the Spirit of God is born in us.   

We may face challenges, difficulties, struggles, sorrows, or even despair, but we have to remember that God is always here.  The Mother-Father-Infinite Source-Inexhaustible Supply-Divine Mind is not only the universe that we see with the physical eye, but also the Kingdom within us.

The Psalmist says, “Be still and know that I AM God.”  Wendy reminded us of this when she shared the journey of her struggle to give birth, which resulted in the realization that she and her partner Ines could love another’s child as their own because “we are all blessed fruit.”  She said:

“I was no longer angry and cursing God. I was no longer weeping.  I started to see that we carry God in us, in our hearts, in our wombs, in our bellies, and we carry God through us, just as God carries us.  For we must remember that ‘The Kingdom of God is within us’ (Luke 17:20-21).  It is through that practice that I really saw the light.  The light within me, within you, within all of us.

Ironically, from the moment the Haitian [earthquake devastation] story broke, I found myself saying from time to time, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could adopt a Haitian child who lost her parents? And, that spontaneous question answered  something that had plagued me for some time.  ‘Yes!’   I heard my heart whisper, ‘I could love another’s child as my own because we are all blessed fruit.’  We are all worthy of God’s love. We all deserve the best.”

Wendy said that for the first time in her life, she really started to meditate on the Virgin Mary’s state of mind:

“First,  I have to admit that I was jealous of the fact that she was able to get pregnant through immaculate conception and I felt angry that I could not conceive.   Putting those feelings aside, I tried to get into her head and to think what she must have been feeling when she was visited by the Angel.   And in that space, I connected with her vulnerability and the sense of openness that she had to have to receive this generous gift from God.  I thought about how she had to submit completely to something that she could not see. . . .

I thought about how Spirit must have carried her through her sleepless nights and how Spirit must have calmed her because it must have been scary to be pregnant under the circumstances: a young woman carrying a child she didn’t know that much about.

I saw her pregnant with child but also pregnant with the Child of God.  Mary did not only give birth to Jesus but to the Christ Consciousness, which was born in all of us.”

We pray that we will consciously embrace the Kingdom of God emanating from within and deliver it through the womb of our hearts.  We pray that we will give birth to the divine energy of God radiating  through the good that we are.  We pray that we will remember what we are here for in the first place — not to get stuff  but to be giving.  We pray for suffering throughout the world, but we are the answers to our prayers.

So many of us choose to withhold our good from others, with the belief that somehow the sheer act of holding back allows us to have more.  But hoarding our good only limits what God can do through us, and thus closes the open doors to the fruit of our own wombs.

As Wendy said:

“Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb. We are all descendants of Jesus Christ and as such we are filled with everlasting love, joy and hope. Out of the Womb of the Human Heart, God is Born.  Spirit is Born. You are Born.  I am Born.  We are born.  And we live and we breathe in and are One with that consciousness, Christ Consciousness.”

Out of the womb of the human heart, God is born.  From the goodness of Spirit, which is constantly seeking us, we not only give birth to new souls but we give birth to a higher consciousness that spreads the love that John called “God.”

God’s creation constantly creating is the only channel of God’s good.  We are the inexhaustible supply that feeds us.  We are the gifts that give to us.  We are the miracles that await us.  Spirit is constantly moving through our compassion, our commitment, and our consciousness.

Out of the womb of the human heart, the divine idea comes forth.  So not only is God our Mother and our Father, but we are parents of the Divine.  There are angels dancing in the joy of Spirit breathing through us.  Shhhhhhhh.  If you listen closely, you will hear them singing: God is neither here nor there.  God is here.
